In 1977, following the donation of the Benedictine Monastery made by the City of Catania, the University created a new section of the Technical Office called "Centro Storico" (i.e. historic centre). The specific task of this section was to organize the works of restoration of the Monastery.
In 2006 when the works were finished this "section" was closed; all the technical-administrative materials of these thirty years of works was selected and filed in a specific Archive that is part of the Museum itself.
All the documents related to the restoration of the monastery are gathered in the first 4 sections (Acts, Works, Graphic, Photo) these sections are divided in sub-sections. In the other 4 sections (Books, State archive, Meteorology Office, University Buildings), divided into sub-sections too, are gathered various documents obtained in the 30 years of activity of this section of the Technical Office.
Specific attention must be given to the collection of printed resources with more than 1200 documents.
More than half of these documents come from the "Meteorology Office" Library; for example, 80 volumes are just about Sismology.
It is now being defined, under the responsibility of Officine Culturali, the creation of a specialized library (more or less 300 volumes) about Architectural Restoration, and Cultural Assets.
Once dealt with the relative procedures, Officine Culturali aims to open the archive to public consultation.
The "documents" and the library are particular interesting for their focus on the restoration of the Monastery and, in general, on restoration in architecture, and the information they provide about the scientific equipment of a public office in the first half of the XIX century.
